Trump-Backed Louisiana Candidate Faces Rape Claim
A Louisiana Republican candidate endorsed by Donald Trump is facing renewed scrutiny over a 2007 rape allegation that was reported to local law enforcement but never made public. Blake Miguez, who was rising in the state’s Republican circles, has denied the claims. The woman, described at the time as his “live-in ex-boyfriend,” told authorities he raped her after a night of drinking. She ran to a convenience store, called a friend, and contacted deputies, but refused medical treatment and declined to press charges, saying she did not want him in trouble while he was in law school. Investigators noted she wanted Miguez to understand her boundaries without facing legal consequences. The allegation resurfaced after a public records request in June revealed the police report just days after Miguez declared his intent to run for U.S. Senate. Miguez’s campaign cited a February 24 email from the accuser’s father, stating that “everything my daughter has reported about you were lies and she is a liar and has a drug problem,” to support their claim the allegations were false. Attempts to contact the accuser directly were unsuccessful. The Club for Growth, a conservative political group aligned with Trump, also defended Miguez, citing the accuser’s criminal history and claiming the allegations were not credible. Miguez has served in Louisiana’s House of Representatives for over eight years and was elected to the state senate in 2023. He initially planned to run against U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy but switched to Louisiana’s fifth congressional district seat after Julia Letlow announced her candidacy for Cassidy’s seat. Trump publicly endorsed Miguez in February, calling him a “Maga warrior” and promising he “will not let you down.” Miguez lives in Erath, outside the fifth district, but has maintained a home and operated a business within the district for decades. Known for his marksmanship, he authored legislation lowering the age to carry a concealed weapon from 21 to 18 and served on a politically significant committee investigating criminal justice reforms in New Orleans. His campaign, endorsements, and past work highlight him as a prominent Republican figure, but the resurfaced 2007 allegation has raised questions about transparency, vetting, and the credibility of political endorsements. While Miguez maintains strong support from Trump and conservative groups, the controversy continues to follow his congressional campaign.
