College Football Winners and Losers Week 11
Week 11 in college football offered clarity for conference title races with three weeks left in the regular season, though the ACC stood out for its surprising upsets. No. 8 BYU, No. 20 Iowa, and No. 22 Missouri suffered losses, while No. 14 Virginia, No. 15 Louisville, and No. 23 Washington were the only ranked teams to be upset over the weekend. In the ACC, Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Pitt are leading the conference with 5-1 records. Duke sits at 4-1, and Louisville is 4-2. Georgia Tech appears to be the favorite as it prepares to host Pitt after traveling to Boston College. Virginia’s streak ended with a 16-9 loss to Wake Forest as quarterback Chandler Morris left the game due to injury. Key upcoming games include Pitt at Georgia Tech on November 22, Virginia at Duke in Week 12, and Louisville visiting SMU in Week 13. The American Conference remains wide open. Navy leads with a 5-1 record, followed by South Florida, Tulane, North Texas, and East Carolina at 4-1. Memphis is 4-2. Tulane’s 38-32 win at Memphis and South Florida’s win over UTSA kept the race tight. North Texas has three winnable games remaining against UAB, Rice, and Temple, while Navy faces Memphis and South Florida before its game against Army on December 13, which does not count for playoff or conference title purposes. In the Big 12, Texas Tech is the frontrunner at 6-1 after defeating BYU to end the Cougars’ undefeated run. BYU, Cincinnati, and Houston remain in contention, though Texas Tech will likely face the winner of BYU at Cincinnati. The Red Raiders’ remaining games against West Virginia and UCF are favorable, as both teams have struggled in conference play. The Big Ten race is dominated by Indiana (7-0) and Ohio State (6-0), with USC, Oregon, and Michigan each at 5-1. Indiana’s comeback win over Penn State kept the Hoosiers on track for the conference title. Indiana hosts Wisconsin and Purdue in the final weeks, while Michigan must win against Northwestern and Maryland to challenge Ohio State for a Big Ten title game spot. USC and Oregon face each other on November 22, ensuring one of them will finish with at least two conference losses. The SEC features Texas A&M and Alabama at 6-0, with Georgia at 6-1 and Ole Miss at 5-1. Texas’ upcoming game at Georgia could become decisive if the top teams stumble. Texas A&M moved to 9-0 with a win over Missouri and will face South Carolina next, while Alabama hosts Oklahoma before Texas plays Georgia. The SEC race will become clearer after these matchups. Key winners this week include James Madison, now 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the Sun Belt after a 35-23 win at Marshall. Tulane impressed with a 38-32 road win at Memphis, moving to 4-1 in the American Conference and remaining a strong contender for the title game. UConn also gained attention with a 37-34 victory over Duke, improving to 7-3 overall, while Missouri State became bowl-eligible after a 21-17 win over Liberty, standing at 6-3 overall and 4-1 in Conference USA. Among the losers, Florida fell 38-7 to Kentucky, dropping to 3-6 overall, making a bowl game unlikely. Colorado is 3-7 after a 29-22 loss at West Virginia and is unlikely to reach postseason play. Maryland has lost five straight games, falling to 4-5 after a 35-20 loss at Rutgers, while UMass is 0-9 overall and 0-5 in MAC play after a 44-10 defeat at Akron, facing a challenging road ahead. With only three weeks left in the regular season, conference title races across the nation are shaping up for dramatic conclusions. Fans will be watching closely as teams jockey for positioning in their respective conferences and the College Football Playoff picture begins to take shape.
