Connors Player Ethan Dietz Dies
Ethan Dietz, a sophomore basketball player at Connors State College in Oklahoma, has died after suffering a head injury during a game. The 6-foot-8 forward from Vilonia, Arkansas, was injured in the second half of a game on Saturday in Texas.
School officials confirmed Dietz’s death on Tuesday in a statement posted to the college’s Facebook page. They said initial reports indicate he suffered a head injury during the game.
“Ethan exemplified what it means to be a Cowboy, to value hard work and being part of a team,” the statement read. “While the team and the Cowboy community are processing our own grief, our hearts go out to his family and friends.”
Following Dietz’s death, several of the college’s basketball games were canceled.
Dietz had been averaging 11 points per game through eight games this season. The college announced that a vigil in his honor will be held next Monday on the campus in Warner, Oklahoma.
The basketball community has expressed condolences for Dietz’s passing, honoring his dedication to the sport and his teammates.
