Shiffrin Dominates Again as US Sweeps Flachau Podium
Mikaela Shiffrin extended her slalom supremacy on Tuesday, claiming victory at the Flachau World Cup in Austria and leading an American one-two finish with teammate Paula Moltzan. Shiffrin’s composed second run sealed a 0.41-second win over Moltzan, marking her sixth victory in seven slalom races this season and her record-extending 107th World Cup win, including her 70th in slalom.
Moltzan, chasing her first career World Cup victory, produced a strong second run to secure second place and continue her breakthrough season as one of the sport’s most consistent technical skiers. Austria’s Katharina Truppe rounded out the podium, finishing 0.65 seconds behind Shiffrin.
Camille Rast of Switzerland, who recently ended Shiffrin’s winning streak, fell out of podium contention after a late mistake, while Italy-born Lara Colturi, racing for Albania, struggled to finish over two seconds behind.
With only one slalom left before the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, Shiffrin is poised to clinch another season-long slalom title. A win in Spindleruv Mlyn on January 25, combined with Rast finishing outside the top 14, would secure her the crystal globe. Moltzan continues to build momentum after also earning bronze in giant slalom at last year’s world championships.
